Populated from the late 19th century by Scottish, Irish and British, and then later by French Canadians, the Megantic region is located in the Eastern Townships close to the border of Maine and near Beauce.
Megantic which means “place where fishes are held” in native American language (Abenaki) offers an exceptional natural environment and is not far from urban centres.
The MRC du Granit territory covers 2 733 km2 and contains more than 22 000 inhabitants. Its population benefits from a remarkable quality of life in a lovely natural landscape. The regional economy depends on manufacturing, especially that related to wood products, clothing and granite.
